About Valency
Valency Systems is a small, dynamic team of engineers, scientists, and researchers building the global hub for the agentic research era.
We're based in Berkeley, California, and we're building something that matters. If you care about open science, advancing research at the speed of thought, and using AI to accelerate discovery, we'd love to talk.
As an intern, you'll be fully in-office 5 days a week over the summer — a great way to immerse yourself in the team and get the most out of your experience.
The Role
Reporting to the GTM Lead, your job will be to build and run the outbound and inbound machine using AI tools to do what would traditionally take a team of five. We are not looking for someone who learned ChatGPT last year. We want someone who thinks of AI as a genuine force multiplier and has already built workflows that prove it.
At this stage, demand gen is as much about experimentation and learning as it is about pipeline. You will run outreach, track what lands, and iterate fast. You will also help us understand which academic personas respond to which messages — intelligence that feeds directly back into our customer discovery and larger GTM work.
What You'll Do
Build AI-assisted outreach sequences targeting researchers, lab administrators, and department leads at top research institutions
Use Frontier AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) to personalize outreach at scale without losing authenticity
Run SEO experiments targeting the specific search queries researchers use when looking for tools like Valency Bond
Set up basic pipeline tracking so we know which channels and messages are generating interest
Experiment with programmatic content generation (blog posts, LinkedIn content, email newsletters) and measure what drives meaningful engagement vs. vanity metrics
Work closely with other members of the GTM and technical teams to ensure outreach messaging reflects what we are learning about researcher pain points
Who We're Looking For
You are genuinely fluent in AI tools. You have built multi-step prompting workflows, used APIs directly, and can explain the difference between a good prompt and a bad one
You are data-literate and instinctively reach for data to evaluate whether something is working
You can write clearly and credibly about technical topics. Academic audiences will not respond to generic marketing copy
You are comfortable running multiple experiments in parallel and killing the ones that do not work quickly
You have some exposure to marketing fundamentals (funnels, conversion, attribution) even if your background is primarily technical
Your Experience:
MBA or quantitative undergrad, Data Science, or CS — but major matters less than demonstrated AI fluency. If you have built something independently using AI tools (a side project, a research tool, an automation workflow) and can show it, we want to hear from you

What You'll Get
You'll work alongside founders and senior team members, not in a silo. Ship real work that matters. Learn building a dynamic company to support open science and agentic research. Experience startup culture with learning sessions and cross-team exposure. You'll interact with interesting academics and researchers from across many disciplines.
