Data Center Infrastructure Architect
We are seeking a technically proficient and detail-driven Data Center Infrastructure Architect with a strong emphasis on structured cabling systems design to join our global infrastructure engineering team. In this role, you will lead the architectural planning, design, and integration of physical infrastructure—particularly fiber and copper cabling systems—across hyperscale and enterprise data centers.
You will play a critical role in developing and implementing structured cabling strategies that ensure high availability, scalability, and operational efficiency. This includes everything from pathway design and patching architecture to cabinet/rack layouts and labeling schemes. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams including network engineering, electrical/mechanical design, and operations to ensure end-to-end infrastructure alignment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and oversee structured cabling systems (fiber and copper) for data centers, including backbone, horizontal, and inter-rack connectivity.
Develop and maintain cabling standards, design templates, and documentation covering pathways, containment (tray, ladder rack, conduit), and labeling.
Define rack and cabinet layouts, patch panel configurations, cable routing, and port density strategies to optimize performance and manageability.
Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, and electrical teams to integrate cabling infrastructure into overall facility layouts.
Evaluate and select cable types, connectors, routing hardware, and labeling methods based on performance, scalability, and cost.
Support physical layer design reviews, contractor coordination, installation quality assurance, and commissioning efforts.
Collaborate with network and operations teams to ensure designs support current and future connectivity and capacity needs.
Provide design input during site selection and due diligence related to space planning and pathway feasibility.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (RCDD certification preferred).
5–10 years of experience in structured cabling and data center physical infrastructure design.
Expertise in fiber/copper cable design, cable management systems, rack/row layouts, and BICSI/TIA-942 standards.
Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, Visio, Revit, and BIM 360.
Solid understanding of data center network architecture, including interconnect topologies and physical layer requirements.
Strong attention to detail, documentation, and project coordination skills across multiple stakeholders.
