Position Overview

The Shift Leader supports the management team by overseeing daily shift execution, ensuring operational excellence, and maintaining hospitality and food quality standards at all times.

You will be responsible for:

  • Opening and closing the restaurant
  • Deploying and managing team members
  • Driving hospitality and operational standards
  • Protecting food quality and brand consistency
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations

This role requires confidence, composure under pressure, and the ability to lead by example.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise and support team members during shifts.
  • Delegate tasks and deploy team members effectively.
  • Maintain positive morale and strong communication.
  • Coach and redirect team members when necessary.
  • Serve as the on-shift decision maker when managers are not present.
Guest Experience & Hospitality
  • Resolve guest concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Demonstrate and reinforce O’Bagel hospitality standards.
  • Ensure every guest receives a consistent and positive experience.
Operational Excellence
Conduct Figure 8 walkthroughs to maintain cleanliness and organization.
  • Validate that all menu items are prepared to company standards.
  • Run effective pre-meal huddles to align the team on daily goals.
  • Complete required Blanket checklists and operational reports.
  • Ensure proper deployment during peak periods to protect speed and accuracy.
Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure all health, safety, and security protocols are followed.
  • Maintain food safety standards (DOH / ServSafe compliance).
  • Understand and enforce proper cash handling procedures.
  • Implement new policies and procedures as directed by Management.
Communication & Accountability
  • Communicate regularly with Managers and General Managers.
  • Provide feedback on team performance and operational opportunities.
  • Ensure smooth transitions between shifts.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire others.
  • Mastery of all stations (FOH and BOH awareness).
  • Proficient in Brink POS system.
  • Strong knowledge of Blanket checklists and operational tools.
  • Proven problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Comfortable running pre-meals and leading shift direction.
  • ServSafe or NYC Department of Health certification required or willing to obtain.
Schedule & Compensation
  • Full weekend availability required.
  • Flexible shifts based on business needs.
  • Competitive hourly rate based on experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, and reach as needed.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant environment with varying temperatures and moderate noise levels.
